[Women's Indoor Track & Field] Stephanie Johnston First Card to Compete in National Meet

Comments

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Cardinal freshman, Stephanie Johnston (FR/Brantford, ON) became the first Lady Cardinal to compete in the Indoor National Meet. Heading into the meet, Johnston was seeded 33rd in the 5000 meter run but finished strong in 24th place.

Head Coach Andrew Tirmenstein had this to say about Johnston, "Steph had an amazing first indoor season; setting several school records along the way to becoming school's first women to make it to the national meet. We as a coaching staff couldn't have been happier with her performance through the month of February where she broke two school records, placed 3rd at the conference meet in the 3000m, and qualified for nationals. Steph has impressed us around every turn this year, and we can't wait to see what she can do this outdoor season."

Johnston currently holds three school records; the 1000 meter dash, 3000 meter run, and 5000 meter run. Johnston ran the 1000 meter dash in 3:16.59, the 3000 meter run in 10:37.06, and the 5000 meter run in 18:31.58. Johnston also broke the 1 mile run record in the first meet of the year only to see teammate Brie Schofield (SO/Belleville, MI) run it down later in the season.
