Comments

The CUAA men's and women's cross country teams took part in their first races of the season this past weekend at Olivet College. The Cards went up against Olivet, Albion and Lansing Community College in the four team meet.

Despite a slow, wet course, the Lady Cards were led by three freshman. Leading the charge for Concordia was Stephanie Johnston (FR/Brantford, ON ) who placed 2nd overall with a time of 20:18.21. In her first race as a Cardinal, Johnston broke into the women's cross country record book as 6th fastest All-Time in the 5km. The Cards had one other runner finish in the top 20, freshman Courtney Dykema (FR), in 16th place with a time of 22:53. The next Cardinals to come in were Amber Gillespie (FR) in 28th followed closely by Delisia Morris (SR/Ypsilanti, MI) in 29th, Kelsey Riley (SO/Milford, MI) in 31st, and Michaela Horgan (SO/Jerome, MI) in 32nd.

On the men's side, Concordia was led by senior Alex Kitchin (SR/Flushing, MI) who finished 23rd overall with a time of 18:19. Kitchen was closely followed by sophomore teammate Miguel Gonzalez-Feliciano (SO/Beavercreek, OH) in 26th place. In his first Collegiate race, freshamn Matthew Monroe (FR) ran a personal best of 18:46, just one second faster than CUAA's Andrew Gardner (JR/Scotts, MI) to place 28th and 29th.

No team scores were kept for either the men's or the women's team.

Both teams will compete at the Spartan Invitational next Friday, September 6th, at Forest Akers Golf Course in Lansing, MI.
